So last week I received a call regarding a brand new Mr steam unit that had been installed in the Ft Lauderdale Area. My customer was disappointed because it was not turning on after the installation had been finished.
I went over to check this unit out, and after inspecting it; saw that the water feed solenoid was broken in half, specifically the part of the solenoid that goes inside the red hose. The unit was turned on without making sure that nothing was leaking, a simple inspection would have prevented the damage. When the steam generator was turned on the water hit the 103975 pc board and transformer, this immediately burned these parts.
The factory test every unit before they are shipped out so it's impossible this would have been broken there, it could have happened during shipping or the installer over tightened the water supply hose, either way, it should have been detected before the unit was turned on.
I replaced the pc board, transformer and water feed solenoid and got the steam unit to work again.
Mr Steam has been around for close to sixty years and it is very common to run into units that have been installed about twenty years ago, this was the case for my latest installation. The steam unit had been installed before the bathroom was actually built, so the bathroom vanity was introduced around the actual steamer. Surprisingly the steam unit worked without any sort of issues or maintenance for the full twenty years, this is a testament to the quality that a Mr steam generator offers.
Removing the old steam unit was actually impossible without taking the vanity apart and removing the sink, once that was done, I was able to place the new unit in this very tight spot where the original unit was placed.
My customer did not want to purchase the auto flush which was a shame because it does work, very effectively; it keeps the tank clean by removing the excess water left from the boiling process and leaving the tank empty, so when you start a new session fresh water is introduced to the steam unit tank. This allows the heating element and tank to remain free of any sediment build up.
The new I Tempo Plus Control and Aroma Steamhead were positioned in their original placement spots in the shower, momentarily the brand new Mr steam was turned on and the steam bath session began.
Have you ever wondered if converting your shower into a steam room is a major project? Well, I can tell you it can be done in three days, one for the electrical, one for the glass installation and one for the steam unit installation. I just finished this type of installation for one of my customers and it was a very painless process for everyone involved.
The first thing we did was to install the brand new glass door and panels, then a glass top as the ceiling so that the shower could be completely enclosed, this process as a whole takes about one week because the glass is made to order once we measure it, however; it only takes us one day of being in your house to actually install the glass.
Now the electrical part can sometimes be tricky, most of the time it will take a whole day to be able to run the 240 volt connection from the breaker box to the actual area where the steam unit will be installed. This now would technically be the second day of actual labor in your home.
The third and final day will be when we install the steam bath generator, I always recommend, the mr steam generators, because; there are a lot of brands out there and after eight years of experience I can tell you without a doubt Mr steam is the best steam unit in the market. The warranty, technology, quality and customer service they offer is really above average and far superior from the rest. The plumbing, electrical and accessories installation gets done in a full day.
So if you ever considered turning your shower into a steam shower but thought it would be a major project that would interfere with your very busy schedule, I guarantee you the process couldn't be smarter and noninvasive, and the most important thing; the actual cost is very affordable considering everything you are getting in a turn key installation.
So when one of my customers asked me to install a 36 kW commercial steam generator in his home, I was surprised, frankly, had been one of the first times I had received such a request. When I arrived at the house, it started to make a little more sense because this was a huge mansion and they actually have a 1400 cubic foot room where they would make the steam room, also this room has a pool which pretty much makes it the coolest steam room ever. The Mr Steam CU-1400 36 KW commercial steam generator was installed in the basement of the mansion, which is relatively close to the steam room, the temperature is set by the CU1-D1 which is factory installed on the boiler itself, the only thing is it keeps the boiler on all day maintaining the set temperature, which is not something you want for a residential steam room, so the 30 minute mechanical timer was installed by the entrance of the steam room, thus allowing for on demand operation, however, the boiler remains on all the time and the steam pressure must be released if it is not going to the steam room, that is why the steam vent is important because it allows the steam vessel to stay at a stable pressure and allows for the steam to be released immediately to the steam room when prompted by the 30 minute timer. The heavy duty auto blow down valve was installed and set to turn on everyday from 12 am to 6 am, in this period the valve releases all excess water from the tank, allowing the boiler to remain clean so it does not build up sediment, also the boiler remains off during this time period. The blow down valve does keep the boiler clean, but it does not hurt to add a second layer of protection, that is why we installed the Amerec ASX-200 two stage water filtration system to clean the water before it goes into the boiler, because sediment is the number one enemy of the commercial boilers. The boiler is working very well without any issues, this makes my customer and his constant house guest very happy!
This week I replaced an old Amerec 8 KW Sauna Heater that had been working in a commercial setting for close to ten years, it is not uncommon to run into these heaters that really after ten years of heavy duty daily use are still working and could be repaired if so desired. In this case my customer decided a new unit was in the best interest of the club and we put in a new Amerec Trend 8 KW Sauna Heater with A30 time and temperature control and commercial on/off button. The installation is always difficult when it comes to running the new cables for the controls from outside the sauna room to the heater inside, luckily I have very good plastering skills and making holes in the wall to run the cable is not a big issue since I can easily patch it, once that is done, we put in the new heater and make all the 240 volt electrical connections and also connect the sauna light to the heater so it can be powered by it and not from the source in the breaker box, this allows the light to be automatically turned on when the on/off button is pushed and also be turned on/off from the A30 control. This brand new heater works very well for the commercial setting it was put in, the on/off button makes it easy to operate for the daily user and the A30 control gives the manager the ability to change settings, although, the A30 control was left accessible for the daily users so they could also make changes to the settings. The room reaches 180 degrees in about 15 minutes, which is very good timing and adding some water to the rocks creates some soft steam and raises the humidity of the room. Amerec has been making saunas in the United Sates for close to forty years and they are truly the best sauna brand available in the market, so if you need to replace your old heater or are looking for a new one, Amerec will be your best choice.
Amerec saunas are definitely the best and highest quality saunas in the United States, the way that the heaters are designed is not comparable to any other in the market. In this case I was replacing an old viking sauna heater that was no longer working. The hardest part of these installations is running the new cables for the control and sauna light, once this is done the other components are installed. The A30 control is really meant to be used by the club manager in a commercial setting and the commercial on/off button is installed in an area easy to reach by the users making it easy to operate. I installed the on/off control where the old viking timer was outside the sauna and the A30 timer higher than that, where it would be obvious that the daily users just need to turn the sauna on with the regular on/off timer, the duration of the session and temperature is preset by the club manager, in this case 180 degrees for 30 minutes and every time the on/off button is pushed the control defaults to these settings and automatically turns on the sauna light. The sauna is working very well making the spa users very happy but most importantly the club manager!
Many steam installations occur when a bathroom is in the process of being remodeled. When possible install locations are limited, a good option is one of the bathroom vanities; therefore, this limited space made my job a lot harder. The installation began with the slight issue that the plumber who worked on the gutted bathroom before me did not leave the drain exit pipe on the location I had specified, in order to make the gravity auto drain possible. Due to this, a special box used as a shelf for the steam generator made the level of the gravity drain a reality. Now with that fixed, I was able to proceed; however, my job was made even harder because the space inside the cabinet was reduced more. The good news is that I was able to install the steam unit, including the accessories my customer had bought, such as the aromatherapy pump, chromatherapy light, steamlinx app and inline water filter to clean the water feeding the steam unit. Please take a look at the finished product below and call me should you have any questions regarding a steam bath generator installation.
After ensuring the heating element had continuity and was pulling the right amount of amperage I removed it from the tank, after doing so I discovered the inside of the tank was full of sediment and residue build up, so very carefully this very hard mass was removed, however, the heating element although working had a small build up of sediment and a new one was installed to ensure optimal performance of the steam unit. The service was completed and the steam generator back to making the spa users very happy, it is important to note that had there been an autoflush valve installed the chances of this build up happening would have been very slim, but since this particular steam unit did not have the autoflush this happened in less than five years which is actually not that bad considering the situation.
This is one of the projects we just completed in the Boca Raton area, the old shower was completely ripped out and all the backing material was properly water proofed. In this case our customer had a Smart Series Mr Steam Bath Generator which we were able to repair and re-use in the new steam shower room, we always make sure all the corners of the steam room are protected with silicone and the tile is sealed. The fact that we install the glass ourselves makes the process easier for our customers as this allows us to provide a turn key operation. Check out the pictures of the finished product below!
